Since 2026, core wicker export production areas including Linshu in Shandong, Funan in Anhui and Gushi in Henan have fully rolled out the customs intelligent supervision model. With digital clearance measures such as remote video inspection, online traceability verification and paperless quarantine declaration, the long-standing industry pain points of slow clearance, complicated inspection procedures and frequent shipment delays for plant-derived woven goods have been greatly resolved. It delivers remarkable efficiency gains and cost reduction benefits for wicker handicraft exporters this year.

Wicker products are plant-based handmade goods under key customs quarantine supervision. The traditional clearance procedure required on-site container opening inspection, verification of fumigation documents and random product sampling. The workflow was cumbersome and labour-intensive. During peak shipping seasons in the second half of the year for Black Friday and Christmas stock preparation, port inspection backlogs often built up. Many small and medium exporters missed vessel cut-offs, incurred detention charges and delayed replenishment deliveries for overseas retailers, hurting customer reputation and repeat orders.

Industry experts warn that faster intelligent clearance does not mean relaxed quarantine standards. Online inspection places stricter requirements on document completeness, procedural norms and raw material compliance. Cargo without properly fumigated willow, incomplete ledgers or missing quarantine papers will be rejected and risk detention or return shipments. For wicker exporters, standardized production, complete document archiving and compliant operation are essential to keep benefiting from smart customs supervision and maintain stable overseas supply chains.
